Community Service Opportunities
Community service can take on many forms.  Some students like to design a project with a local group and see that project all the way through from start to finish.  Some prefer to pick an agency and spend quality time serving the mission of the agency.  Others prefer to build a list of "one-day" volunteer activities with their friends.  Whatever style you prefer, volunteering can be a rewarding experience, especially if you apply your skills and passions to your volunteer work.  Our local charities and agencies need our help to keep their programs strong.  Consider volunteering, not because it looks good on an application, but because it is one more opportunity for personal growth!

We have provided some local agencies below, but keep in mind, you can volunteer with your church or through organizations such as Scouting as well.   The options are endless!

With the COVID pandemic, please contact agencies to determine if they are still taking volunteers!

Community Hope Center Mentor
Cornerstone Church is offering a community service opportunity for High School students willing to mentor younger kids from our area.  In addition to having the opportunity to be a good role model for kids, this service is also a great way to enhance college and scholarship applications. Cornerstone Church runs and hosts a community outreach program through the Community Hope Center on Monday evenings. It is a mentoring program geared to reach and teach underprivileged kids in the Bethalto, Roxana, and Alton areas. Young participants are provided a meal, a lesson on social skills, and a club/self-confidence building activity with a selected mentor. Cornerstone Church is always looking for volunteers who can spend time with the kids from our area. No qualifications are needed, as each experience is tailored to the volunteer. This program is a great way for High School students to connect to their own community.  For more information visit the FB page below.  Those interested in participating should email Rebecca Keller using the other link.
