College Search

Once a student has completed some career exploration, choosing the right college can be both a fun and frustrating process.  (If careers and college majors have not been explored, visit our Career Exploration tab first!)

Although nothing beats an old fashioned campus visit, some students struggle with narrowing their lists down to the colleges they want to visit.

To aid in this process, we are including a couple of "College Search" engines, linked below, which are free of charge to students but may require setting up an account.  We do not necessarily endorse these programs but make them known to our students.

We have also included a link to the Illinois Association for College Admission Counseling's (IACAC) resources which support our state universities (non-private school).  The  "12 Reasons to Stay in IL" guide allows the user to conduct a side by side comparison of each university and their criteria/scholarships/deadlines, etc.  The other useful brochure on that site is the "State Universities At-A-Glance" brochure which shows all of the majors and which IL state schools offer those majors.  We have also included a link to  excerpts from the College Tour TV series which provides 30-minute videos of colleges across the nation.  We hope that your find these materials helpful as you navigate your college search.

Happy hunting!

The College Tour

Illinois College2Career
This search engine is provided by the state of Illinois and requires no account.  The colleges found in this search engine are all located in IL.
The student will be asked to identify a two year school or a four year school and a field of intended study.  Once submitted, students will be able to view, at a glance, a cross comparison of each matching university/college.  The categories presented are: the percentage of students who graduate from each institution in four years, the cost after aid, student debt, earnings in IL and earnings growth in IL.   The student can then click on the college name for more detailed information about the college and the intended program at that college.  This is a great way to gather a lot of information very quickly!
